HISTORY

The church that we now know as All Peoples Christian Church, Los Angelees has a rich history and diverse history, dating back to the early twentieth century.

This community of faith originates from “Japanese Christian Church”and “Japanese Christian Institute” in South Los Angeles. During World War II, leaders and members of the Japanese-American congregation were sent to internment camps. In 1942, the United Christian Missionary Fund and Reverend Dan Genung responded to the call to rebuild this community of faith. Under Genung’s leadership and in response to the needs in the neighborhood, All Peoples Christian Center opened its doors offering daycare and support to South Los Angeles, as one of America’s oldest and most trusted faith-based community organizations. All Peoples Christian Church held its first worship service in 1946. The last eight decades have seen major changes to the community. What has not changed, is All Peoples striving to be a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, diverse, and inclusive community of faith.
